About

Pop Up Art Fair in support of homeless and housing insecure women

Gathering for Women – Monterey’s (GFW) mission is to provide supportive services within a caring community to homeless women on the Monterey Peninsula. We grew exponentially in the last five years. We evolved from an entirely volunteer driven, one day a week meal service organization to a professional Day Center with eight staff members and more than fifty regular volunteers, open for two meals a day Monday through Thursday and for breakfast and a weekend take-away meal on Friday.

Local professional artists have donated their work and are exhibited side by side with artwork from the homeless women we serve. The artwork by our guests show the versatility, bravery, and amazing talents of our guests. All paintings were created on the premises at GFW during our bi-monthly 3-hour painting workshops. The vast majority of our guests had not painted since kindergarten. They remembered the joy of creativity, mixing colors, and the focus and peace it brings to one’s mind. Our guests have been inspired by original photographs, old masters, and local artists.

The proceeds from the sale of art from professional artists will help fund our day to day operations. The proceeds from our guests' art goes directly to each individual artist. We hope you will sit back and enjoy the lovely art our guests have created. We hope you will be inspired to purchase one or more paintings. It would make our guests very proud of their accomplishment and add a special memento to your home.
